Following Jesus for 75+ Years

Driven by a strong commitment to reach the unchurched with a clear Christian witness, the Evangelical Christian Church’s Iowa Conference decided that Cedar Rapids was the place to establish a new church. Former Covenant members living in the area were contacted and in November 1946, a small group of 25 people met at the home of A.W. Peterson.

In March 1947, three lots on a triangular corner were purchased at 701 25th Street & G Ave NE. Nearly two years after the group first met in the Peterson home, and more than a year after the land was purchased, the small but mighty group broke ground for the church in August 1948.

God continued to move and bless throughout the year until a simple 100-seat sanctuary was built above the basement. This first 100-seat sanctuary was completed and dedicated on January 22, 1950. The congregation was formally organized with 21 charter members in February 1950.

Throughout the decades God continued to work through the church, blessing New Covenant with seasons of exponential growth. Men, Women and children grew in faith and served our community, sharing God's love and the message of the gospel with hundreds of people. This continued growth caused the church to purchase a larger property on 46th Street NE, and then eventually expand again to build our current facility.

In February 2025, we celebrated our 75th Anniversary, praising God for all He has done through the thousands of people who have been a part of this body of believers.

Today, as it has always been, New Covenant is a life-giving community of believers holding fast to the truths taught in the Bible and seeking to share God's love throughout our community and the world.
